gwen frostic

If you ever happen to get up to northern Michigan, make a point to go to Benzonia and stop in the Gwen Frostic shop. Gwen, who passed away in 2001 was an amazing artist who created beautiful books, prints and note cards. She had a poetic way of portraying nature using linoleum block prints and gorgeous muted colors. My mom purchased a lot of her work on our summer trips to Michigan and I still find random notecards tucked in books and shelves around the house. In case you don't make it up to Michigan often, you can find some of her work at The Gwen Frostic website and The Curiosity Shoppe. Photos from The Curiosity Shoppe and Desination Northern Michigan.

I had the pleasure of visiting Gwen Frostic's shop in 1996, while staying with friends who lived in Frankfort. It was a real delight and I was able to have a book signed by Gwen :-)
