I bought this straw fedora at the beginning of summer - I'd be searching everywhere and this was the only one I could find (in my price range, dammit Burberry!) The problem was that the hat had this brightly colored, patterned band around it. Oranges, pinks, blues etc. And while that's lovely...it didn't go with anything. I didn't wear it nearly as much as I thought I would because of it.
Well I'm getting ready to take a little trip (more on that tomorrow!) and I'm determined to take the hat along and get some use out of it!
So presenting:
How to make a hat more boring.
.
1. Strip the hat
.
.
2. Buy a scrap of fabric. Recreate the old band using the scrap and a handy-dandy iron.
.
.3. Add a few tack stitches all around (snazzily hidden up under one of the pleats!) and voila - a boring hat! One that you will want to wear all the time and will match everything. Yeah!

oh i love it! it's a huge improvement!
very cute idea :) I need to find the proper "naked hat" to decorate
Awh that's so cute ...and I much prefer the neutral version!!!
good move - I wouldn't say boring...classy is a better word! :) xxx
You are so talented! I love it and hope you get more use out of it now.
Much better! Not boring, just stylish! The fabric before looked a bit "middle aged guy in a hawian shirt", but now it screams "fashionista!". Nice work!
I love it - I need to find a hat to do this too :)
Great looking neutral hat - you'll have to show a picture while modeling it.
BTW, came your way by way of artsyville. You have a fun site. :) M
Heeheehee, naked hat naked hat!!!!
Super cute switchup!
What an easy way to jazz up a hat! Thanks for the instructions :)
Not boring. More versatile!
it is so cute and so not boring!
SO NOT BORING. I think I need one of these.
Well, aren't you so fabulous?
I likey :)
Sooo much better now! Nice work lady! You know, I only managed to wear my straw fedora one time this summer, and it had a black band so I have no floral-matches-nothing band to blame! But I loved it the one time I wore it, so maybe I will wear it more next year.
