alice in wonderland

So (of course) I loved it.

I promise not to spoil anything story-wise, but if you like to be left in the dark before you see a movie then stop reading here...

As expected the movie was every ounce of eye-candy I had hoped for. Tim Burton's vision is just fabulous. One of my favorite aspects of the film are the various dresses Alice wears - especially the red number the queen gives her. AMAZING. belongs on a runway. Couldn't get over it. Still in awe. So much that I can't even write a complete sentence. Props to the costume designers!

While I'm hot and cold with Johnny Depp from movie to movie, he blew me away. His accent was perfectly bizarre. I will say I hated his dance, it was the one part of the film that seemed very out of place/unnecessary/made me want to shout STOP! Ok, I also wanted to shout stop when the Avril song came on for the credits. Boo to that decision. But loved Johnny.

Anne Hathaway did a great job - I liked her exaggerated swoopy, overly graceful (if that makes sense) movements. Helena Bonham Carter was awesome (as usual) and seemed to have a lot of fun with her role. Mia Wasikowska (Alice) was fine.

I'll be honest that the plot was ehhh. But I didn't go for the story, I went to soak in the amazing colors, set design, makeup, characters etc. that you expect from Tim Burton. So I didn't miss it, but I think that's why its getting some less than awesome reviews.
Overall I give it an M for marvelous. Have you seen it? Thoughts?!

Lol don't be so mean about Mia....look at the cast of colourful characters she had to compete with and Alice isn't the most stimulating of characters in general.
But yes I loved all her outfits, EXCEPT that droopy top one she ends up in when she shrinks and she keeps having to adjust it so she wasn't flashing!! I really loved the one the Hatter made for her!!
But yeah....you don't go for the plot....its all for the clothes and characters and scenery and colours and the general Tim Burton-esques!

I totally agree with your feelings about Johnny's dance! It made me cringe, actually. But I love love loved everything else! :)

I liked the mad hatter as well, I thought he did a great job not being too annoying or over the top but I also HATED the dance. It was so dumb and dorky that I got kinda embarrassed for him. I thought it was good but I wish it had been a little brighter (more color and magic)and less bleak. That's what wonderland is about after all. But it is a Tim Burton so I wasn't expecting a musical with rainbows or anything.

Good to know! I took a cinematography class and Tim Burton definitely favors colors, odd characters, and unique camera angles! I'm excited!
