white in winter?

.
I have a dress I bought a year or two ago. Love the dress. The problem? Its cream colored-which just kind of limits what it can be worn to. But I love it.
.
I have an event coming up this weekend (not a wedding) and this little number popped into my head. I began to wonder if I could dye it - get it to a warm gray for a better winter color. The problem? The dress is made of four layers of fabric and the bottom three? Polyester. boooo polyester.
.
After a little research on dyeing polyester I'm not sure I'm ready to take on that project. Anyone successfully dyed polyester? One option is dyeing the dress and hoping the top layer (nylon) takes and works with cream layers underneath. But I'm not sure what material the lace is and that could mean gray dress/white trim.
.
So my question:
can you wear a white dress in winter? I'm thinking black tights + black heels with a small black shrug/sweater. and I'm starting to like the idea - but a little unsure. I have my go-to purple dress as backup...but I'm also considering a dyeing attempt and we'll just see what happens. Thoughts?

I love the dress, I'd go for it and wear it with black.

It is beautiful...and I know what you mean about white in the winter...it is a difficult one - do it but with the black woolen tights and a black cardy - that should do it! xxx

I have that exact same dress. I got it a couple of years ago... I think at Forever 21. I wear it in the winter with black tights and boots and a black wrap sweater that I have had for years as well.

I don't think the "don't wear white after labor day" is in effect anymore. I say go for it!

Go for it! There's no reason not to wear what you love.

Definitely! Rules suck! Wearing it with black will ground it.

numero uno: who cares about rules?

numero dos: i kind of like the sound of a grey dress with white lace trim... sounds kind of cool.

It's so beautiful! I wore a VERY similar white dress with black tights and shoes to a Christmas party -- You can totally pull it off. At the same time, I know you love grey! This particular dress would be stunning in grey.. If you dye it, please post a tutorial! You're braver than I am & I've been wanting to dye this J.Crew top forever.....

i love it and love white in the winter!!!

would look amazing with black tights, black heels, and a black blazer or leather jacket to toughen it up a bit!

Go for it. Lots of people wear white in winter. You could even go for some awesome purple tights or something to make it POP!

definitely.
i wouldn't dye the dress- its perfect and classic as it is.
you can also pair it with a patterned black tight and boots with a heel. that would be super duper hot.
beige is gorgeous- much nicer than a grey. and you can wear it in summer time too.

Don't you dare dye that dress! It has such a lovely vintage feel to it now!!!!!
The colour can totally be worn at this time of year....to be honest the only thing that makes it unsuitable are the thin straps, so they have to be covered!
My recommendations would be the following:
1. A nice vintage scarf, combined with some pearls and a blazer. Bare legs or black tights.
2. Black tights, heels and a leather jacket/sequined jacket ....awesome!
3. Vintage scarf and a long cardigan in a winter colour ....dusty purple maybe!

I wore a white dress and black wool tights with black heels for our company holiday party. Go for it. It's not like it's stark white anyway. Love it!

You absolutely can wear white in winter. Please do not dye it! It's fabulous! I did dye polyester once and I think it depends on the color. I tried black and it turned out more gray/purple.
